This week we set sail with the Kerberus. Because Netflix is launching the long-awaited mystery series 1899, which has what it takes to become a new series obsession. With international production, the team at Dark returns to the streaming service. The three-season sci-fi series is one of the best Netflix productions, also because it found a surprisingly good ending for the dark puzzle fun.
All the greater are the expectations of 1899, about which you three things should know before starting.
1. The plot of 1899 in brief
The two Dark heads Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar are also behind 1899, but this time they travel even further into the past. Shortly before the turn of the century, one of many makes itself felt migrant ships from Europe off to the “new world”. In the USA, all kinds of people want to start a new life. But when the Kerberus encounters a ship that has been missing for months, her voyage is thrown off course.

The captain (Andreas Pietschmann) decides to search for survivors on the Prometheus. What the passengers of the Kerberus find is beyond the limits of their (and our) wits.
2. The new mystery series on Netflix is so good
The setting differs greatly from that of Dark, but comparisons are still obvious. After all, 1899 is also driven by secrets and tells a story that is anything but simple and straightforward. So is 1899 as good as Dark?
My colleague Max Wieseler writes about 1899:
Who could delve into the complex puzzle levels of Dark with great passion and generally a soft spot for Mystery Box Series like Lost, Westworld or Manifest will be happy with 1899. Viewers can expect a puzzle game that lives on, amidst strange triangle symbols, mysterious contraptions, green bugs and endless mysteries looking for answers as to what’s going on here.
Similar to the rainy small town time travel series, 1899 takes a long time to lay the groundwork for its puzzles. If you’re looking for a fast-paced series thrill, you’ll probably be disappointed “sometimes ponderous” Narrative. But everyone else should Definitely give 1899 a chance.
3. Then it starts and as many episodes come
The complete first season of 1899 arrives Thursday, November 17th to Netflix. The season consists of eight one-hour episodes. Appropriately, the prelude is called The Ship.
If the Dark team has its way, it won’t stop with one season, as they revealed in the interview about 1899.
If you are now curious about the series, you can get an overview of the characters in the article about the cast with 7 (!) Netflix stars and familiarize yourself with three (spoiler-free) puzzles of the Netflix series before 1899 then on Thursday begins the journey across the Atlantic.
