The scandal that killed Wind River

Sheridan had written Wind River to raise awareness that many raped and murdered indigenous women without the public being aware of it. In the end, however, the film was overshadowed by a scandal: Wind River was released shortly before the Weinstein scandal.

Numerous women raised allegations of sexual abuse against the Hollywood producer, who also brought Wind River to the cinemas with his production company The Weinstein Company. Upon the home theater release, Lionsgate and Netflix took over distribution and Weinstein’s name was removed from the film.
