It is Sweden’s Radio Drama that is now releasing the radio drama “Giftskandalen 1975” in five parts. A story about people in the small mining town that became famous for the big environmental scandal.
– I have always been more curious about how things went from inside the factory. One of the main characters is Astrid, who gets a job in the lab at the factory. And she notices that things are not going quite right. Her daughter gets asthma and when she swims in the river she gets a rash, says director Jenifer Malmkvist.
“No one listened to the local population”
For the director, working on the drama has made her think about whether we are as smart today as we think.
– The local population understood that something was wrong, but no one listened to them. And then I think about how we are today because it is so easy to look back and think “God, how stupid they were”. But in 40 years, what will people say about us and how we manage our nature and our environment?, says Jenifer Malmkvist.
