With Dragonflight, World of Warcraft gets a wealth of new features, some of which are already playable in pre-patch 10.0. MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus is completely satisfied and is having more fun than ever. But one tiny detail annoys him enormously.
I’m really looking forward to Dragonflight. Since the pre-patch, gaming has been really fun again. After 6 years, a new class is finally coming, the Caller, talents are returning and many old systems are being fundamentally revised.
After 12 years of WoW kinda dying away, Blizzard is finally doing almost everything right again. And with a terrific change, I’m now even greeted every time I log into the world with a character.
Blizzard has completely reworked the WoW interface and now makes it possible to move almost all elements.
Things that I used to have to do with multiple add-ons are now done automatically and even better, I think. It no longer looks fragmented, but more harmonious. Even the detail ensures that I have more fun playing my classes again.
So what’s bothering me now? Blizzard has fixed an element that is also quite important, and that too in the dumbest possible place. The experience bar is stuck at the bottom of the screen and cannot be moved.
No matter what settings I try: without addons, the bar stays where it is. And addons like dominoes no longer work properly with the new UI. So if I’m going to play in my ideal interface, which I’ve put together over the years, my skills now cover most of the bar.
This is not only unsightly, but also damn impractical. Checking how long I still need until the ascent takes a good bit longer and is more annoying.
This was particularly annoying for me when leveling my secondary characters. At the moment there are such strong XP bonuses that you can get to level 50 in 4 hours. I did that with the classes that I was still missing – but also with this annoying detail.
I’m not the only one that gets annoyed by that either. Already in the beta, many players had problems with the new UI and since the release of 10.0 there have always been complaints about the feature, although it is actually a long overdue innovation.
By the way, I also worked on the new GameStar special on Dragonflight. You can pre-order it here:
Leveling up fast is great, but the XP bar gnaws at the thought
I wanted to use the preparation for Dragonflight to look at all the other classes that I still need at level 60. The new talent trees for all classes look super interesting and I want to reorient myself anyway.
I’m particularly fond of Rufer, which will be playable on November 16th. I found it excellent in the alpha and beta. Here is my recorded gameplay from the test:
Constantly staring at this small spot between the bars and looking for the EP bar is always a moment that literally spits in my soup in the euphoria. Nothing that makes me stop playing WoW now, but…
Well, imagine you’re eating a delicious cake, but with every bite, a fly lands right next to your left nostril. each. Times. With the whole cake. This is how I feel when I want to see how long it takes me to level up.
Luckily the bar disappears at max level anyway. So I don’t have to worry about it for too long. And by the time Dragonflight was released, Blizzard might have introduced an option to move the bar. Otherwise I’ll have to make a new UI…
