The Chief of the General Staff of the Nigerien army ended a 48-hour visit to Benin on Saturday, November 12. He came to talk mainly about security issues with his Beninese counterpart, General Fructueux Gbaguidi. The border that separates the two countries along the waters of the Niger River faces the threat of terrorism. While several incidents have been reported in the Beninese town of Karimama, the two countries want to fight the common enemy together.

” Niger is one of our best partners “, rejoiced a high-ranking Beninese during the stay of General Salifou Modi, received with all the honors. The boss of the Nigerian army was accompanied by his chief of operations, Colonel Issa Gabriel Roger.
There was no press release on the visit, but according to our information the two armies will work together on three axes: the training of personnel for combat in wooded areas, the exchange of information in real time and their use in a concerted action, then finally the intensification of joint operations on both sides of the Niger River.
In July 2022, Benin and Niger signed a military cooperation agreement, but its contents have never been revealed. From good sources, we learn that Niger has been supporting Benin in intelligence with aircraft or drone flights for several months.
The Beninese Minister of Defense explains that the fight against terrorism is not the battle of one country.
