A total of eleven nestings of the white-backed warbler have taken place throughout the country – five of them in Västerbotten. Among other things, deciduous forest has been thinned out in several places, which is appreciated by the whiteback.
– We have made major efforts in Västerbotten, both the Forestry Agency, the county board and the municipalities. The birds have found good places to nest, says Malin König, who works with endangered species at the county board’s nature conservation unit.
The white-back is extremely shy during nesting, therefore the county administration does not want to say where in Västerbotten the birds have nested.
The young left the nest
– But we know that five nestings have been successful, there we have seen that they formed families and that the young left the nest, she says.
Now the future of the white-backed woodpecker is viewed positively.
– The future looks bright. The birds have responded directly to the investments that have been made, it just said bang and they struck, says König.
