The man suspected of fatally stabbing a police officer in Brussels, Belgium, was on a watch list for potential extremists, prosecutors said.
On Thursday, the man attacked two police officers, one of whom was killed and the other injured. He had previously visited a police station, told about feelings of hatred towards the police and asked for psychiatric help. The officers drove the man to the psychiatric ward for observation, but he later left the hospital.
He has previously been convicted of other crimes but was also on the Belgian surveillance agency Ocam’s terror list.
The case is being investigated as murder and attempted murder with a terrorist context.
