For over eight months, Russia has waged its brutal war against Ukraine. But the traces of the war will remain for a long time, with destroyed buildings and a destroyed infrastructure that will have to be rebuilt at some point.
But the first step is being taken by Ukraine already now, when fierce fighting is still going on. A big part is neutralizing all the thousands of mines the Russians leave behind when they retake Ukraine.
TV4 News’ broadcasters have accompanied deminers in Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, who are now working at high speed to secure roads for the civilian population.
– It will take dozens of years to remove all the mines from this area, to the level where the civilian population can safely farm here or go out and pick mushrooms in the forests, says deminer Vitaly.
