Roughnecked veteran Don Collier in the war film Heart of Steel is one of Brad Pitt’s toughest roles. However, while shooting the film, he proved his diplomatic nature and had to avoid a fight. At least that’s what Clint Eastwood’s son and Pitt’s co-star Scott Eastwood says almost got into a fight with his colleague Shia LaBeouf.
Brad Pitt had to stop a fight over chewing tobacco
Eastwood told GQ:
We almost got into a fistfight. I was doing a scene with Brad Pitt and chewing tobacco. [Shia] Didn’t even play, but he was in [Method-Acting-Modus] and then told me not to spit tobacco on his shell. He asked me to clean it up. I told him to fuck off. In the end, Brad Pitt had to intervene.

Eastwood also referred to LaBeouf in the same conversation as “pain in the neck“their”ruined your own career“. Thanks to Pitt’s courageous intervention, the animosity seems to have subsided quickly. A short time later, Eastwood told Extra TV: “We were just a bunch of guys in extreme circumstances [und] with a lot of testosterone, there are sometimes disputes.”
LaBeouf’s behavior on set drew attention elsewhere as well. Apparently he wanted to become one with his role so badly that that he cut his face. When he didn’t wash for four months, Brad Pitt had a serious word with him.
