Decathlon is one of the brands that contribute the most to the democratization of cycling in France. Its offer of electrically assisted bicycles will be enriched in 2023 with a first model equipped with an automatic gearbox, which has just won the Reveal Innovation competition.

The Reveal Innovation competition rewards the creativity of Decathlon’s design teams each year and this Long Distance 920 E Connected was awarded in the “Techno Innovation” category. It is therefore distinguished by its automatic gearbox, a technology that is supposed to considerably simplify the life of cyclists. In 2021, the equipment manufacturer Valeo had paved the way by unveiling a 48V electric motor associated with an adaptive seven-speed automatic gearbox, all integrated into a single module.

This product has been designed to technically meet the needs of users. Here, the automatic transmission engine offers fluid pedaling for maximum comfort, effortlessly. The technical information as well as the autonomy of the bike (which should logically be important given its name) are however not yet known.

Currently, Decathlon offers a full range of city, all-terrain, electric, folding and even cargo bikes in its catalog. Note that, since 2020, the brand has also offered a bicycle rental offer, with insurance against theft, maintenance, repairs and high security anti-theft.

Earlier this year, Decathlon unveiled a spectacular electric bike concept representing its vision of the future. It stands out for its clean lines, customization and increased security. For the moment, however, there is no indication that a future production model, identical or almost, will soon be launched.

Around 660,000 electric bikes were sold in France in 2021, according to Union Sport & Cycle, a new record. This figure is up sharply, around 28% compared to 2020.
