What started as a small, underground festival that focused on bands from Canada has grown into an internationally leading avant-garde music festival. Music venues, cafés and theaters, as well as churches and old factory buildings throughout Utrecht, are the main stage for new and relatively unknown bands. There are no world-famous headliners, and yet – or because of that – thousands of people from all over the world come to the cathedral every year for Le Guess Who?. This edition is once again sold out.
Johan Gijsen is the founder of the festival together with Bob van Heur. Gijsen has now handed over the baton and has already started his new job. This is the first time he can “just enjoy” the festival. “Without having to look around me to see if what happens on stage is resonating with the audience. But of course I remain a proud ambassador.” In 2016 Gijsen was named Utrechter of the Year by the AD.
