The developers of Diablo 4 have now sat down and talked about two important topics of the game: the difficulty and legendary items. Here you can find out what system Blizzard came up with this time and why you will shed more sweat and tears.

Where does the information come from? News site IGN talked about Diablo 4 in an interview with General Manager Rod Fergusson and Game Director Joe Shely. The main focus was on two important elements of the hack and slay:

  • unlocking and progressing the difficulty
  • the customization of legendary gear.
  • Blizzard took a closer look at these features and made some improvements and adjustments for Diablo 4. You’ll have an easier time customizing your gear this time around, and a harder time unlocking difficulty levels.

New systems in Diablo 4 bring a breath of fresh air

Here’s how to unlock difficulty levels in Diablo 4: Earning difficulties has always been easy in Diablo. In Diablo 3, you had to complete the story and reach a certain level, while in Diablo Immortal, just completing the story was enough. In Diablo 4, the unlock will change because you have to fight hard for it.

When you start your journey in Sanctuary, you will have a choice of two difficulties. After that, you need to level up your hero to level 50 before unlocking the menu for further levels.

The world of Sanctuary is harsh and unforgiving

World bosses function as gatekeepers for difficulty levels

Once you have reached level 50, you can only earn further difficulties if you defeat certain world bosses. However, these are tied to the difficulty levels to be played.

This means that if you need to defeat a Hell 3 level boss, you will also need to defeat it on Hell 3 difficulty.

Only then will “Hell 3” be unlocked. However, in order to be able to prove yourself, you need good and, above all, legendary and rare equipment and this will also get a new coat of paint.

So you should be able to customize the equipment in Diablo 4: The most exciting feature of legendary gear is its wide variety of customization. Blizzard has taken a well-known system, the Kanais Cube, and brought back the mechanics behind it in a better way.

You not only take over desired effects on your hero, but you can also add legendary effects to a rare piece of equipment. You don’t need a Kanais Cube.

This allows armor and weapons to be shaped the way your heroic heart desires. Diablo 4 will still come up with a few things before it can cross the gates of its release. What do you think of the adjustments to these well-known systems?

Do you like that difficulties now have to be earned or do you want the old system back? Let’s find out in the comments!
