In Pokémon GO, Trainers have made a strange discovery about Palimpalim’s Charged Attacks and come up with a wild theory. A player is now trying to check them with the help of loading TMs. We at MeinMMO show you what it’s all about.
What attacks are they? When you catch a monster in Pokémon GO, it has already deposited a random instant and charged attack. However, these are not always ideal for use in raids or GO battle leagues, which is why you have the option of changing the attacks of the individual monsters using the appropriate TMs.
So you can adapt the attack combinations according to your ideas. Each monster has a certain range of attacks that you can choose from. It’s the same with the Psychic-type Palimpalim, which you can teach the Charged Attacks Energy Ball, Spook Ball, and Psyshock.
But a strange discovery has now been made about this monster, leading to a wild theory in the community. We have summarized below what theory that is and how a trainer wants to check it.
Trainers make strange discovery at Palimpalim
What discovery was made? As the reddit user Willsgb shows in his reddit post, he discovered anomalies in the selection of Palimpalim’s charging attacks. So he wanted to switch attack from Palimpalim with the help of a Top Charge TM.
Unlike using a normal Charged TM, where the choice is random, using a Top Charged TM allows you to choose your attack directly. Willsgb did so, noting that Palimpalim’s charged attack Psychoshock was listed twice. That’s why he asked on reddit: “Why does a charged attack show up twice in the list of possible charged attacks?”
The trainers suspect: While some trainers complain about bad game code in the comments and immediately think of a bug, other players suspect that the double listing is related to a weighting when using the normal loading TMs.
So you might imagine that this makes Psychoshock more likely to be chosen by the system than either of the other two moves. There is no official confirmation of this, however.
By the way: From November 14, 2022 you can unlearn frustration again with a Charge TM for Crypto Pokémon. You can read which monsters are particularly suitable for this in the following article:

Trainer starts study with 70 charge TMs
The reddit user tkaish is also convinced that the double listing of the loading attack in Palimpalim must be related to a weighting and wants to prove this with the help of its own study (via reddit.com).
What study is he doing? As tkaish explains in his reddit post, he started a self-experiment using charging TMs. He’s already used 70 Charged TMs to randomly change Palimpalim’s Charged Attack. Each random selection is documented accordingly by him in order to finally be able to deduce how often the attack Psychoshock was chosen by the system. This is how he writes:
Following u/Willsgb’s recent post about the dual appearance of Psyshock in Palimpalim’s top TM menu, a discussion arose as to whether this means that Psyshock gets extra weight when picked at random (with a normal TM). There was no immediate answer, so I ran a test.
Subject was an iridescent female palimpalim, level 3. 70 Charge TMs were applied to the palimpalim and the results were sequentially recorded. Palimpalim has three possible Charged Attacks: Psychoshock (PS), Energy Ball (EB), and Spook Ball (SB).
A Charged TM doesn’t change the move Psyshock to Psyshock, so I was particularly interested in what happens when the move in question is either Energy Ball or Spook Ball. If Psychoshock were given double weight by being listed twice, you’d expect a TM to go from EB or SB to PS about 2/3 of the time, and to the other “ball” moves about 1/3 of the time. If there is no additional weight, a TM should switch from EB or SB to PS about 1/2 the time and to the other “ball” attack about 1/2 the time.

What are its results? At the end of his reddit post, he also goes into his previous results of this investigation. Thus, there were 45 attempts in which the Charged Attack Energy Ball or Spooky Ball preceded and should be switched.
He was randomly assigned the Charged Attack Psychoshock 54% of the time. For the remaining 46%, however, the attack switched to the other “ball” attack. This suggests that there is no higher weight in the selection.
In my study of 70 charging TMs, there were 46 cases where the existing attack was EB or SB. 25 of these cases (54%) switched to PS. The other 21 (46%) switched from EB to SB or vice versa. This indicates that Psychoshock is unlikely to be double-weighted in the random selection, despite appearing twice in the picklist. But more data is always better! If you want to hurl a bunch of TMs at a palimpalim and report the order of attacks you get, please do so here. I will post my specific dates as a comment below.

However, since 70 charge TMs are not enough for a meaningful result, he asks other trainers to do the same and post their results in the comments.
However, a first look at the comments shows that other players also get similar results. The user Mason11987 received the Pychoshock attack 19 times out of a total of 32 attempts (via reddit.com). It can therefore be assumed that there is no special weighting for attacks that are stored twice in a monster’s game code.
What do you think of the study by reddit user tkaish? Were you hoping that there would be double weighting on these attacks? Or do you even want to take part in the research yourself? Feel free to write us your opinion here on MeinMMO in the comments and exchange ideas with other trainers.
