Since the pandemic, getting vaccinated at the pharmacy has become a reflex for many French people. Today, in addition to vaccines against influenza or Covid-19, it is possible to be vaccinated for other pathologies. Indeed, 14 new vaccines can now be made in pharmacies.

We told you about it last March, on the occasion of the signing of the agreement between Health Insurance and community pharmacists on this subject. It came into force on November 7. Pharmacists are therefore authorized to administer all types of vaccines and boosters, the objective being twofold: both to relieve doctors and to increase the vaccination coverage of adults.

A role already taken on in practice

For Yves Dour, community pharmacist in Le Mans and member of the Doctissimo expert committee, these are “micro missions“that they already are”supposed to do“. “The health authorities realized that the population was in favor of vaccination at the pharmacist” believes the doctor of pharmacy, for whom pharmacies respond to “a need”through this measure.

    A list of fourteen vaccines

According to the website of the Order of Pharmacists, the vaccines in question are as follows: “vaccines against diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis, whooping cough, human papillomaviruses, invasive pneumococcal infections, hepatitis A and B viruses, meningococci of serogroups A, B, C, Y and W and against rabies”. serums that “qualified pharmacists are authorized to administer the product on medical prescription”.

    Towards a prescription for vaccines?

Pharmacists wishing to vaccinate must be trained and declared to the Regional Health Agency to which they are attached to perform these acts. In addition, these vaccinations are currently reserved for those over 16 and will be charged 7.50 euros each.

Will pharmacists be able to prescribe them themselves? At the moment, this is only possible for flu shots. But article 20 of the Social Security financing bill (PLFSS) for 2023 could change the situation and allow an extended prescription to pharmacists.
