In Frankfurt, Germany, 64-year-old Mayor Peter Feldmann, who was prosecuted for placing his wife of Turkish origin, Zübeyde Temizel-Feldmann, in a high-paying job, was dismissed with a referendum. While 95.1 percent of the approximately 200 thousand people who participated in the voting voted for Feldmann’s resignation, Feldmann decided to leave his post on 11 November, after the result. The required vote rate for Feldmann to be removed from office was 30 percent.
ALLEGED THAT INTER-PARTY CONFLICT WAS EFFECTIVE IN THE REFERENDUM DECISION
While it was claimed that there was a conflict of interest within the party behind the referendum decision, which was taken before the court was concluded, some sources claimed that Feldmann was exposed to pressure because it contradicted the interests of the real estate monopolies in Frankfurt and did not provide convenience.
FELDMANN’S ASSISTANT WILL BE REPLACED
Feldmann from the Social Democratic Party (SPD), who was tried by the court for “granting unfair advantage and abuse of power” on the grounds that he paid his wife, who is the director of the German-Turkish nursery affiliated to AWO, a salary that was well above the collective agreement, was to expire in 2024. Deputy Mayor Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg will take the seat vacant from Feldmann until the new election to be held on March 12, 2023. (UAV)
