Sri Lanka’s navy says around 300 people, believed to be migrants, have been rescued from a sinking boat.
Navy spokesperson Indika de Silva says a Sri Lankan national on the boat contacted them on Monday and said they were in distress. Then help was sought from Singapore, Vietnam and the Philippines.
Singaporean authorities later informed Sri Lanka that the people on board the boat had been rescued and were on their way to Vietnam.
