STRIKE 10 NOVEMBER. A new day of strike and rallies is organized in several sectors this Thursday, November 10, 2022 at the call of the CGT, everywhere in France.
[Mis à jour le 7 novembre 2022 à 21h01] A new strike is planned in France this Thursday, November 10, 2022, after that of October 27. The secretary general of the CGT, Philippe Martinez, thus called “to maintain the pressure so that there is an increase in wages”. The union also unveiled the objectives of this new inter-professional strike: “wage increases, the Smic and the automatic indexation of all levels of remuneration to the cost of living”. A way also for the CGT to demonstrate its opposition to the pension reform desired by the executive.
Among the sectors affected by these strikes, there is that, capital, of transport. In Paris, the RATP announced this Monday, November 7 via a communicated that it “plans for highly disrupted traffic on the RER and Metro networks and disrupted on the surface network (Bus and Tramway)”. The company recommends that travelers who can do so “prefer teleworking or postpone their trips on the network that day”. The RATP also specifies in its press release that the definitive information concerning the situation in Parisian transport on Thursday will be given on Wednesday morning. Public transport in other French cities will also be disrupted.
Regarding the SNCF, the CGT Cheminots also called for a strike for November 10, indicating that it does not accept “the decision of the Management (of the) SNCF to close the 2022 negotiations” in a communicated. “The CGT has proposed to the UNSA, SUD-Rail and CFDT to act as a unit on November 10,” he added. An appeal refused by the CFDT des Cheminots, which considers that November 10 is a “single and isolated date” which is therefore not “the best way to make railway workers win”. Traffic forecasts on the SNCF network should be known from tomorrow, but if a train is canceled due to the strike, SNCF will contact you to let you know.
Public transport is not the only sectors affected by the strike. Thus, a movement was also launched by the CGT Public Service. Disturbances could take place in the schools of National Education, in those of public health but also in certain offices of La Poste. At the same time, demonstrations are planned across the country on Thursday. You will find more information on the sectors concerned and on the gatherings planned further down in this article.
In a press release relayed on Twitter, the inter-union of drivers of the Régie de la RATP (FO, CGT, Solidaires and Unsa, etc.) announced on October 24 that it aimed for there to be ” zero metro, zero RER” on this day of mobilization, a “dark day”. The intersyndicale also specified in this press release that a strike notice has already been filed from Wednesday November 9, 2022 at 10 p.m. to Friday November 11 at 7 a.m.
If, as mentioned above, the RATP foresees disruptions on all of its networks this Thursday, and calls for favoring teleworking or postponing travel, it specifies in its press release published on Monday: “The information will be updated as on digital channels. The final transport plan will also be the subject of an updated press release on Wednesday morning.”
The unions of the public transport networks of cities other than Paris are beginning to announce their strike notices. The city of Rouen has warned of disruptions to its transport network Tip; indeed, metros, buses, trams will be impacted. The inhabitants of Nice, who will also be affected by this strike, will have the consolation of being able to park for free on the city’s roads. In Montpellier, several local transport network unions have announced that they have filed a strike notice this Thursday, November 10.
In Amiens, the Union syndicale solidaire des transports (UST) Keolis Amiens also filed a strike notice, as noted by the Mail Picard. However, the majority union Force Ouvrière has not yet decided on the follow-up to the movement.
In addition to public transport, other sectors will be affected by this strike. In the public service, a movement has also been launched. In his communicated, the CGT Public Service writes that “there is no question of letting things go!” It calls for interprofessional mobilization, in particular for “general increases in salaries and pensions, the minimum wage at 2,000 euros gross”, “the indexation of salaries and pensions to inflation” or even “the means necessary for the proper functioning of public services”. Thus, as for each strike notice, the first degree teachers (nursery and primary) who will strike will have to declare themselves 48 hours in advance. However, teachers at the secondary level (middle and high school) are not obliged to alert in advance. Similarly, the CGT Health and Social Action called for a strike “to defend the ethics of [leur] work in conditions worthy of the missions that [leur] are entrusted”.
Some post offices could also operate in slow motion, warned the CGT. In a communicated dated November 3, the union announced that a strike notice had been filed on November 10. He claims several demands including an immediate increase in wages, the allocation of the 13th month as well as the transition to night hours paid at 3 euros per hour.
As during each mobilization, the CGT puts on its website an interactive map listing the gatherings across the country. At present, only certain mobilizations have been announced, in particular at:
- Paris: demonstration at 2 p.m. on the Place de la République
- Rennes: demonstration at 11 a.m. on Place Charles de Gaulle

- Montpellier: demonstration at 12 p.m. in front of the station

- Marseille: demonstration at 10.30 a.m. at the Reformed
In a communicated official, the union called on “all workers, young people and retirees to remain mobilized to make November 10 a new day of strikes and large-scale demonstrations in all professional sectors, public and private, on the whole territory, to obtain wage increases and impose new choices and another future”.
During the last mobilization, Thursday, October 27, the movement had not been very followed. Thus, according to the police, 15,000 people were mobilized on the territory, including 1,360 in Paris. Much less than last October 18, when 300,000 people demonstrated according to the CGT, and 107,000 according to the police.
