The UN’s international climate negotiations have started in Egypt. Today, it’s the turn of the heads of state to speak at the two-week meeting. Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin (sd.) speaks around 6 p.m.
The UN Secretary General who spoke earlier today at the Climate Summit António Guterres warned that the climate is changing at a catastrophic rate. According to the UN’s recent climate report, the last eight years have all been the hottest in the world’s recorded climate history.
The most important goal of the UN climate conference being held in Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt is to keep the 1.5 degree target recorded in the Paris climate agreement within reach. Researchers consider staying on target increasingly unlikely.
