At 16:00 Swedish time, there were reports of 19 dead, according to BBC.
A passenger plane with 43 people on board crashed into Lake Victoria on Sunday morning, local media reports.
The plane that departed from Dar es Salaam belongs to the Tanzanian airline Precision Air and was on its way to land at Bukoba airport in Tanzania.
– There has been an accident with a Precision Air plane that crashed into the water about 100 meters from the airport, regional police chief William Mwampaghale told reporters on the spot.
Pictures and videos from the scene show how the plane is partially underwater. In the rescue operation, which is still ongoing, they try to lift the aircraft out of the water with the help of ropes and cranes.
The Tanzanian Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) reports that a storm with strong winds and rain should be behind the accident.
