The need for demining tools is great in Ukraine. At least 5,000 new deminers would need to be trained and equipped.
In just two weeks, companies and private individuals have collected material worth close to half a million kroner, which was received by the ambassador in Sweden on Friday for transport to Ukraine.
– This will help us save lives. It will save the lives of the elderly, students and children, says Andrij Plachotnjuk, Ukraine’s ambassador to Sweden.
About 30 percent of all arable land in Ukraine is estimated to be mined or unusable due to unexploded ordnance. There is also a great need for cleanup around roads and destroyed bridges.
Each box sent is enough to block off three kilometers for clearing.
