Facts: Different standby modes
There are three different levels of preparedness in care in case of special damage events or processes. They are used so that emergency healthcare can have resources that match the current need.
Staff situation: A special healthcare management keeps informed of the situation, takes the necessary measures and follows the development of events.
Reinforcement mode: A special healthcare management takes measures for point reinforcement of important functions within healthcare.
Disaster mode: All the functions within the healthcare system that are required to take care of a large number of injured are called upon. Personnel and equipment are reinforced.

— The reinforcement mode means that we mobilize our forces so that we can make decisions in a faster way than normal. For the patients, it should not mean any difference, says Brita Winsa, director of health and medical care SVT Västerbotten.
The region has now started searching for retired nurses and students who can work extra at the three hospitals concerned.
They also take inventory of healthcare personnel participating in research and development projects to see if there is an opportunity to redeploy personnel.
According to Brita Winsa, every stone is turned over to find a solution to be able to secure care places in the short term. However, the problem is expected to continue for a long time as large retirements among nurses are expected in the coming years and it is difficult to recruit new staff.
