The government pushes an extra SEK 50 million for the work against honor violence. Among other things, the investment will go towards criminalizing so-called virginity operations, says the Minister for Gender Equality, Paulina Brandberg to TV4 Nyheterna.
– This is a group where there are special problems that require special solutions and then it costs money and I know that every penny will make a difference for this group. It is a group that really needs efforts, says Minister for Gender Equality, Paulina Brandberg.
Already last year, the Riksdag decided on an investment of around 300 million to counteract men’s violence against women. But according to the Minister for Gender Equality, more measures are needed to be able to detect cases of honour-related violence earlier. Knowledge needs to be improved for everyone who comes into contact with, above all, young people who are exposed to honor oppression.
– There we talk, for example, about school, about student health, social services and also within the legal system, where we need to make major investments in knowledge. But we also need to increase protection for those who are exposed to honor-related violence and oppression, continues the Minister for Equality.
