The best zombie series of the last 20 years is

With 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later are 2002 and 2007 two of the most formative zombie films of the last 20 years appeared. The mix of post-apocalyptic horror, gripping tempo and oppressive atmosphere was also important for subsequent productions such as the hit series The Walking Dead.

A third part has been talked about repeatedly in recent years, but it never came about. 28 Days Later director Danny Boyle has now entered hopeful update to 28 Months Later.

The timing for the horror sequel 28 Months Later is supposed to be cheap

In the current interview with NME for the 20th anniversary of 28 Days Later, Boyle also talks about the status of part 3. He says that a Screenplay by Alex Garland already exists:

I would be very interested in directing. It really feels like a very good time. It’s funny, I hadn’t thought about it until you just said it, and I remember, ‘Bang that script!’ that plays in England again, very much about England. Anyway, we’ll see… who knows?

Right now he should time to continue of the horror series according to Boyle:

It might come back into focus because one of the things that’s happening in business right now is that there’s a must be an important reason for going to the cinema, because there are fewer and fewer reasons. It’s difficult for companies that distribute films and theater chains to show films, they struggle to get people into theaters unless it’s something like Top Gun: Maverick or Marvel. But a third part would draw people inif he had succeeded halfway.

There are currently no concrete plans to start production of 28 Months Later. Most recently, Danny Boyle directed the Sex Pistols series Pistol, which you can also stream on Disney+.
