In the statement made by the Ukrainian State Nuclear Energy Company (Energoatom), it was reported that the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant was disconnected from the electricity grid due to the Russian bombardment.
In the statement, it was stated that the bombing damaged the service power lines, and that the largest nuclear power plant in Europe under the control of Russia was powered by diesel generators.
It was emphasized that only 15 days of fuel remained to run the generators. It was noted that the possibilities of the Ukrainian side to keep the plant in a safe mode are significantly limited due to the occupation of the facility and the interference of representatives of the Ruysa State Nuclear Company (Rosatom).
“We once again call on the international community to take urgent measures to demilitarize the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant as soon as possible and to withdraw all Russian military personnel from the plant and the city of Energodar,” the statement said. It was stated that such actions are an attempt by the Russians to reconnect the nuclear power plant to the Russian energy system.
