It has been revealed that some nurses and doctors are also struggling with hunger in the war-torn Tigray region in the north of Ethiopia.

Some nurses and doctors at the region’s largest hospital also have to beg to get food, according to a doctor who spoke to the BBC.

According to the United Nations, 2.2 million people in Tigray are on the verge of starvation.

According to the United Nations (UN) World Food Program (WFP), half of pregnant women and lactating women live under malnutrition.

About 7 million people live in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, which has a population of 122 million.

The militia organization called the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) was part of the alliance that overthrew the government in 1991.

This structure remained effective until 2019, when a new coalition government was formed.

Continuing its power in Tigray, the TPLF decided to hold early elections in 2020; then attacked a base of the Ethiopian Army in the region.

In response, the federal government launched a major military action against Tigray.

thousands of people died

Tigray and two other regions are seriously affected by the war that has been going on for months.

According to WFP, nine million people need food.

Thousands of people lost their lives in the conflicts.

Medical supplies are inaccessible as Tigray is cut off from the rest of the country; Since banks are closed, people cannot access their savings.

A doctor who spoke to the BBC told that doctors and nurses have joined the queue of food packages distributed for the last seven months.

Speaking to the BBC, the doctor explained that food prices skyrocketed, doctors could not reach some of their daily needs, and therefore he had to beg.

The BBC is unable to confirm some of the doctor’s words, as communication has been cut off since the war with Tigray began.

The UN is trying to find $337 million in funding to help Ethiopia over the next six months.
