A new one has been added to the armed or unarmed bank raids that have been taking place in Lebanon since June. This time, a depositor raided a private bank with a gun and withdrew the 30 thousand dollars from his account. Here are the details of the incredible event…
BURST THE BANK BRANCH WITH A WEAPON, WITHDRAWING 30 THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM THE ACCOUNT
The “Association of Depositors”, which was established by the state in Lebanon to protect the rights of citizens whose deposit accounts have been frozen since 2019, shared the details of the bank raid on its Twitter account.
In the statement, it was stated that the depositor, who was stated to be a retired soldier but whose name was not disclosed, raided the branch of a private bank in the Hazımiye district of the Jebel Lebanon province with a gun.
In the statement, which states that the retired soldier was able to withdraw 30 thousand dollars from his account, no details were shared about whether the depositor was detained or not.
MANY PEOPLE HAVE PRINTED THE BANK AND WITHDRAWAL MONEY SINCE JUNE
Since June 2022, many depositors in Lebanon, armed or unarmed, have been raiding the banks in order to withdraw their foreign currency, and withdrawing their money after negotiations with the bank officials.
Legal action is initiated against the citizens who can withdraw their money, and a ban is imposed on them and they are tried pending trial.
While there has been no loss of life or material damage so far in the bank raids that have been going on for 5 months across the country, the security forces are trying to get the depositors out of the bank with persuasion rather than intervention.
All foreign currency deposit accounts have been frozen since 2019 in order to prevent the melting of foreign currency reserves in Lebanon. (AA)
