Do you want to track your electricity consumption? If you have a Linky meter, you can monitor it easily, precisely and for free, day by day, and even hour by hour with a simple Enedis account.
At a time when energy prices are soaring, it becomes crucial to monitor and control consumption. For the planet, of course, but also for the wallet. The situation is so tense that the Government has launched a television advertising campaign to raise public awareness and encourage them to adopt new habits, particularly for electricity, as demand could exceed production this winter, which may lead to restrictions or even cuts. In addition to this “educational” component, public agencies have thus implemented various tools to help users become aware of the problem and adapt to the context. This is particularly the case for the service EcoWatta sort of national “weather report” providing timely information on the state of electricity demand in France on a daily basis and on any cuts (see our practical sheet).
Enedis account: the simple and universal solution for monitoring electricity consumption
However, it is not always easy to assess one’s electricity consumption on an individual scale. Operators such as EDF, Engie, TotalEnergies, Eni, Sowee, Ekwateur, ilek or Mint Energie – which supply energy without necessarily producing it – all offer their customers consumption monitoring on their website or mobile application. But there is an even simpler and more complete solution. And above all, universal: Enedis. The former ERDF is in fact the manager of electricity transmission in France. And all operators go through it to deliver power to homes.
In fact, Enedis is in the best position to know the electricity consumption of each user, since he is at the source. And what few people know is that Enedis offers a free service to track it. All you have to do is create an account and indicate the delivery point identifier (PDL), a unique code that corresponds to the line and the meter. And the best thing is that consumption monitoring on Enedis can be done month by month, but also week by week, day by day and even hour by hour, which makes it possible to take extremely precise measurements and identify the most greedy uses and appliances, possibly shifting them to off-peak hours – for those who benefit from dual pricing.
The only condition for being able to use this free consumption monitoring service is to have a Linky meter – this is the case for 8 out of 10 households in France today. It is in fact thanks to the data collected by this connected meter that Enedis can automatically retrieve consumption information. It is also necessary to have on hand important and confidential information such as the name and e-mail address of the holder of the electricity contract and the PDL (Delivery Point) number, a code which corresponds to the meter installed in the accommodation and therefore on the line, which appears on the invoice but which is also displayed on the Linky counter. That’s all ! Tracking works regardless of the chosen electricity supplier. The service is accessible from a computer through the Enedis website or on a smartphone or tablet thanks to the Enedis application by my side available for android and iOS. No reason to deprive it!
Before you can accurately observe your electricity consumption, you must open an account with Enedis. The operation is free and only takes a few minutes.
► With your usual web browser, go to the Enedis website. Then click on the button Particular, in the top left menu bar. On the next page, click the button My account, at the top right to access the customer account area. You can also get there directly via the customer account page of the Enedis website.
► In the page that is displayed, click on the drop-down menu Select your account and, in the list that appears, choose A particular.
► You can then identify yourself using the service France Connect of the French administration which will then, after identification, enter all the necessary data. You can also click the button To log in (in particular, if you are not the holder of the electricity contract).
► Enter the requested information and click on To validate.
► Open the mailbox corresponding to the e-mail address you provided. In the email sent by Enedis, click on Finalize my registration.
► Back on the Enedis website, click on Access to Enedis customer area. You must now define a password to be associated with your email address to create your account.
► Then enter your contact details (mobile phone number, postal address, etc.).
► Once this data has been recorded, Enedis will send you a 4-digit code by SMS to confirm your identity. When this code is confirmed, the page of your customer area is displayed. Click on the button Add a counter.
► Enter your PDL (Delivery Point) number in the available field. It appears on your electricity bill, but also on your Linky meter: just press several times on the + button to display it.
► When all the information is verified and validated, your Enedis account is created. Keep your password safe to access it when the time comes.
Your Linky meter collects your electricity consumption on a daily basis. But you can also ask him for a more precise state in order to know hour by hour the details of the consumption. A good way to find out which device consumes the most and decide why not, and if your contract allows it, to operate it during off-peak hours.
► With your usual web browser, go to the customer account page of the Enedis website and click the button To log in to log in to your personal account, with your email address and password. Note that the connection is automatic if you have saved your identifiers in your web browser, which is very practical.
► Once connected, you arrive in your account page. To know your electricity consumption, click on the button Follow my measurementsin the white pane on the left.
► The latest readings from your Linky meter are displayed on the screen on a daily basis over the current month.
► To obtain hourly data, an additional step is required. Click on the button Manage access to my data in the white pane on the left of the page.
► In the new page that is displayed, click on the button I activate the collection section Collection of hourly consumption.
► The activation of this function is not instantaneous. It may take several hours before you can access the data. In addition, this collection is valid for one year. Beyond this duration, Enedis will ask you to activate it again. You can also end it whenever you want. Click on To validate.
► When hourly data collection is effective, return to the consumption monitoring page. In the selection bar, next to My consumptionselect the option hours in the drop-down menu displayed in then click the button To validate.
► Your consumption hour by hour is displayed for the day selected in the menu Period displayed, above the graph. Click on this menu to view the consumption for another day.
