Frida Karlsson, Maja Dahlqvist and Linn Svahn provoked strong reactions with their statement.
Now the star trio has met the Swedish national ski team in a decisive meeting.
– This wouldn’t have become a thing if we had just had a little talk every now and then, says Frida to SVT Sport.
It was in an interview with Viaplay last week that the breakaway trio Frida Karlsson, Maja Dahlqvist and Lynn Svahn admitted that they had no contact with the Swedish national ski team after they dropped out. The statement led to strong reactions and the star trio have since met the national team manager Anders Byström to clear the air.
Met the national team
Frida Karlsson understands that the words made big headlines and now explains why they said what they did.
– Actually, we only answered one question, “if you have had any contact?”. We haven’t had that much, but I don’t see that I really wanted to have much contact either. I might have wished that we had decided something before, how we should have it, says the 23-year-old in a new interview with SVT Sport.

After the decisive meeting with the Swedish national ski team in Idre, the trio feel that they have had to air their opinions to the national team management and have had to tell them what they feel about the new season.
– This wouldn’t have become a big deal if we had just had a little talk every now and then, it doesn’t have to be a big deal. We are still friends, we will be in the same organization and work this winter, says Karlsson in the interview and continues:
– I have been very clear about what I see needs to be developed in order for it to become such a good place that I want to be a part of it. I would have liked to hear back about that entire dialogue. Is it something they are even thinking about, are they taking action on, or is it even something they have brought with them?

“It’s the feeling”
Maja Dahlqvist now feels that the national team has taken on board the criticism and their wishes to bring about a change that suits all national team skaters.
– I think so, that’s the feeling I got now. Everyone should get the most out of being at camp and working towards goals together. You should be able to follow your red thread and everyone should be able to do it at camp, says the Swedish sprint specialist to the TV channel.

It was this spring that the blue-and-yellow star trio Karlsson, Dahlqvist and Svahn chose to break away from the Swedish national ski team and train on their own during the pre-season in order to come as well prepared as possible for the new season. Together they felt that the structure of the national team did not suit them very well and during the summer we got to see the trio go to their own training camps together.
