The summit of Arab League leaders began in Algiers on Tuesday, November 1, after a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Although it opened against a background of divisions over the conflicts, particularly in Libya, calls were also made to strengthen the partnership between the Arab countries and Africa in the economic and security fields.

Moussa Fekki, President of the African Commission, spoke during theopening of the Arab summit in Algiers Tuesday evening, the Africa-Arab world meeting, scheduled for 2023 in Saudi Arabia. A meeting described as important by Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the Arab League, who spoke of the need for the member countries of the organization to consolidate their relations with African and Asian neighborhoods, with a view to collectively in the face of the current crises.

Ahmed Aboul Gheit spoke in particular about the food crisis, the drought and the threat to water resources. Macky Sall, President of Senegal and Chairman-in-Office of the African Union, pleaded, for his part, the launch of investment projects in Africa in the sectors of agriculture, housing, energy, mining, health and finance. He also appealed to the private sector and cited Arab banks that can contribute to the financing of these projects.
On another level, Moussa Fekki called for raising the level of coordination between African and Arab countries to fight terrorism and cross-border crimes.
