Greek Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis said that as a result of the sanctions imposed by Greece on Russia, Russian tourists preferred Turkey instead of Greece this summer.
RUSSIAN TOURIST HIGHLIGHT
Mitsotakis and Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas held a joint press conference after their meeting in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. In his speech here, Mitsotakis expressed his condemnation of the attacks on infrastructure facilities in Ukraine, which resulted in the deaths of civilians, yesterday.
Mitsotakis stated that cooperation should be made in order to persuade countries that do not impose sanctions on Russia, especially NATO member countries.
Stating that Greece does not support a ban on Russian tourists visiting the European Union (EU) in principle, Mitsotakis said, “However, as a tourism destination, we have experienced the consequences of joining all the sanctions with the EU. Because practically no one came to Greece from Russia this summer, almost all the Russians who wanted to travel went to Turkey.” used the phrases.
“WE PAID THE PRICE”
Mitsotakis stated that Greece has paid such a price because of the sanctions, “I believe we did it right.” said.
Arguing that the disagreements between Turkey and Greece are about the determination of maritime areas, Mitsotakis said, “We signed an agreement with Egypt on the determination of maritime jurisdiction areas. Israel and Lebanon, which are at war in the region, also managed to sign an agreement on the determination of (maritime jurisdiction areas). There is no reason why we can’t do the same.” he said.
Expressing that Greece and Estonia have many common points, Kallas said that the two countries can cooperate in the digital field and maritime.
Referring to the damage suffered by civilians in the war, Kallas said, “We must continue our military, economic, humanitarian and political support to Ukraine.” said. (AA)
