Brazil’s current president Jair Bolsonaro has yet to admit defeat after yesterday’s election – where he lost by an extremely narrow margin to Lula da Silva.
The silence has raised fears that Bolsonaro may dispute the election results and that there may be unrest in the country.
Concerns have also been expressed that Bolsonaro could attempt a Brazilian version of the storming of the Capitol in 2021, which rocked the US after then-President Donald Trump refused to accept that he lost the 2020 presidential election.
During the day, truck drivers, one of Bolsonaro’s most loyal constituencies, blocked highways in several parts of the country to protest the election results.
