After Halloween celebrations in South Korea’s capital Seoul on Saturday, severe congestion occurred on a narrow street in the city’s Itaewon entertainment district. A riot ensued when a large crowd pressed in and at least 153 people were killed and 150 injured, according to the AP news agency.
A large effort with more than 800 people from the rescue service and 140 ambulances was sent to the scene of the accident. According to the police, tens of people received cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the spot, while many have been taken to hospital.
At this point, it is unclear what exactly caused the mass strife.
