Although seven weeks have passed since the election, it is still unclear who will govern in many Swedish municipalities.
Earlier this week, there were about 40 municipalities where it was still unclear which parties would govern, according to a review by Dagens Samhälle.
According to researchers, in recent years it has become increasingly difficult for politicians to come up with solutions.
An example is Tidaholm in Västergötland, which has a new local party, Vi i Tidaholm, which is involved in the battle for power.
– We started the negotiations late. And it’s a new party that will be involved in negotiations and that means we need to do some rocking, says the current chairman of the municipal board in Tidaholm, Runo Johansson (L).
It is becoming increasingly difficult for politicians to find solutions, say researchers.
– In the past, you could sit on election night with a calculator and work out who would govern, but that’s not the case at all now, says David Karlsson, professor of public administration at the University of Gothenburg.
