Moonbreaker gets its first major content update

Krafton and Unknown Worlds announced that the first comprehensive content update for Moonbreaker is live.

Moonbreaker, which attracted attention with its universe created by Brendon Sanderson, one of the world-famous writers, entered the early access process and was presented to the players. The first major update of the game, which has not passed a month since its release, has also been released. The details on the subject are as follows;

Moonbreaker’s first major content update released

This content update includes major tweaks to the game’s Early Access business model, introduces several gameplay changes to bring it more in line with traditional miniatures and tabletop games, and introduces the second episode of “Moonbreaker: Tales From The Reaches”.

Since launching into Early Access on Steam last month, both KRAFTON and Unknown Worlds have been very committed to evaluating player feedback, which was confirmed with the removal of Cargo Run Contracts a week after release. Today’s content update reinforces the commitment made with key community-driven gameplay changes outlined below. A detailed explanation of these changes can be found HERE.

In a nutshell, this content update removes all in-game monetization from Moonbreaker. Pulsars (the game’s stable currency) have been removed and in-game items can no longer be purchased or exchanged during Early Access. As a result, the in-game store has been disabled and all Pulsar purchases will be automatically refunded through Steam. Founder’s Pack Pulsars have now been replaced with a new Zax and Slopper Skin. Players who already own the Founder’s Pack will receive this cosmetic directly.

Also, all Units (Captains and Crew) are now automatically unlocked with the base game. This means that Booster Boxes have been removed and any new Units added to Moonbreaker in future Early Access content updates (often common) will be unlocked automatically for all players at no additional cost.

Sparks is replacing Blanks and Merits as the main in-game currency. Players can increase a Unit’s rarity using Sparks. A reminder; A Unit’s rarity will continue to be cosmetic upgrades only, without affecting gameplay.

Finally, the Season Track progression is even faster and includes many new cosmetic rewards.

KEY GAMEPLAY CHANGES

Based on strong community feedback, the content update also introduces several core gameplay changes that show Moonbreaker further embraces its miniature and tabletop roots while increasing player management. Firstly, players will now start the game with all their Crews available at the start of each match, and the concepts of “reinforcement” and “drawing” will be removed throughout the game. This adjustment made a slight reduction in squad size from 10 to 8 (not including the Captain).

Speaking of captains, Astra has been reworked to give players a wider range of counterplay options. Also, Ship Aids have been reworked to give players more ways to deal with them:

  • Orbital Strike: At the start of a player’s NEXT turn, deals 3 damage to all units in the area; Cooldown reduced from 4 turns to 3 turns.
  • Cinder Infusion: New Keyword, Infused. Earn +1 Cinder per turn; Inflict Crew Infused on target ally for 3 turns.
  • Plink: When activated, players can select a Unit that has changed health, while it can either restore health (if an ally) or deal damage (if an enemy).
  • Stowaway: When using this Ship Aid, a player’s “lowest cost” yet undeployed Crew will be replaced with a Crew that has +1 more Cinder to deploy.
  • Corrosive Particles: The radius of this aid will be reduced from 5 to 2 with an 83% reduction.

NEW PART OF “MOONBREAKER: TALES FROM THE REACHES”

The new content update also introduces the second episode of the “Moobreaker: Tales From The Reaches” recital. This final episode, “Zax’s Story,” is available in-game or on digital podcast platforms including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, iHeart Media, Amazon Podcasts, and Stitcher.

These streams transport listeners to various locations throughout Reaches—a tiny solar system with moons orbited by a scarce resource called Cinder—as they learn more about the game’s core characters and world. Moonbreaker’s performances will touch on many different points while telling an engaging long story that will unfold over many years to come. “Zax’s Story” is the second of three episodes to air during the opening season of Moonbreaker, with additional episodes planned for each subsequent season.
