The number of drivers who drive under the influence of drugs and alcohol has increased by 33 percent in the past year.
This is the highest figure since 2016, according to the Swedish Customs Administration. A third of those stopped are professional drivers.
Oscar Lindvall at the Swedish Customs Administration believes that some of the foreign professional drivers work under almost slave-like conditions.
– You might drive 20 hours straight and then you have to have something centrally stimulating to stay behind the wheel, he says.
