A policeman charged with causing the death of another can keep his job if he is convicted. The authority’s personnel responsibility board has decided that, writes Dagens Juridik.
The death occurred during an intervention on Lidingö outside Stockholm in November last year. A police patrol was supposed to take care of a man who was behaving aggressively. The intervention became tumultuous and the man was handcuffed.
According to the indictment, the police sat on the man, who was lying down, and pushed him down. It must have led to him suffering from suffocation with subsequent cardiac arrest.
The intervention was filmed by a camera mounted on a garbage truck, which was at the scene.
The policeman admits the facts, but denies wrongdoing.
