“Friends, lovers and the big terrible thing” contains an in-depth account of Perry’s decades-long battle with drug and alcohol addiction. In one passage, he mentions several colleagues and friends who have died of overdoses and asks the rhetorical question: “Why is it that original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves is still with us?”
A little later in the book, he repeats the same phrase when writing about the overdose death of friend and SNL comedian Chris Farley. “I punched a hole in Jennifer Aniston’s bedroom wall when I found out, but Keanu Reeves is still with us.”
This has caused “Matrix” star Reeves’ fans to react, and yesterday an apology came from Perry:
“I’m actually a big fan of Keanu. I just picked a name at random – my mistake. I’m sorry, I should have used my own name instead,” Perry said in a statement cited by The Hollywood Reporter.
