The police station in Kronoberg county had noticed during the early summer of 2020 that coffee packages were missing from the staff room and they decided to start labeling the packages.
One night in August, two packages went missing and when linked with those moving in and out of the police station at the time, it led to an employee being suspected of theft. During a house search by the police, one of the marked packages was found unopened.
According to the police, this person borrowed the package from the workplace and the plan was for it to be replaced, but the search took place before the person could do so.
The police was sentenced by the Växjö district court for theft with the penalty of a suspended sentence without any daily fines, as the assessment was that the person would most likely lose his job because of the sentence.
But the Court of Appeal acquits the police completely. According to the majority of the Court of Appeal, there has been a practice which means that responsibility for theft or arbitrary proceedings cannot be actualized, reports the newspaper.
