The NATO chief increases the pressure on Turkey

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is traveling to Turkey for a meeting with the country’s leadership, German media company Deutsche Welle reports.

Stoltenberg says in an interview with the public service company that he intends to travel to Turkey in the near future to try to convince President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to allow NATO membership for Sweden and Finland.

He does not specify when a visit to Ankara is planned. Stoltenberg’s visit follows renewed attempts by Sweden and Finland to persuade the Turkish government to change its position.
