After weeks of tension between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron, the two EU giants are meeting. On Tuesday, Scholz travels to Paris for a reconciliation meeting.

The strained relationship is partly about the two countries pulling in different directions regarding issues such as energy policy, support for business and defense in the shadow of the war in Ukraine. And partly about personal conflicts between Macron and Scholz.
