Overwatch 2: Server – Update on connection issues and queues

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

Overwatch 2 started with some server and connection issues. Even with the release of the first big event, players are stuck in queues again.

Update from October 25, 21:00: In Overwatch 2, the Halloween event started on October 25th and there are new problems right after the release in the evening. Blizzard already indicates in the Battle.net launcher that live maintenance work is currently being carried out, which can lead to connection problems.

However, logging in also takes time. According to our observations, queues of 700 players and more are possible, and they are only getting smaller very slowly. Logging in worked for us after about 20 minutes. By the way, if you make it into the game, you get a skin to compensate for the problems with the release.

Along with the patch, the locked hero Bastion should be playable again. Bastion has been temporarily disabled due to a bug.

Update from October 7, 1:05 p.m.: The problems continue. Colleagues from the editorial team pointed out to us that switching to the Asia region helps to get into the game. Asian servers appear to be unaffected or less affected by the DDoS attacks. However, expect a higher ping.

As MeinMMO reader Lisa pointed out, according to the official forum post, Blizzard was planning a patch to fix the current circumstances. This should have been uploaded by now.

Even if the community sometimes gets upset about streamers who can gamble without any problems. But even the biggest streamer in the world struggles with the problems.

Last night it remained the case that there were massive problems with the registrations and it was not possible to play at all. The problems are also the dominant topic in the reddit for Overwatch 2 (via reddit). Presumably Blizzard continues to struggle with DDoS attacks.

With us in the MeinMMO editorial team, the result is different. Some of us have problems logging in, while occasionally there are no problems and can be played.

Overwatch 2 Release Tier List – The Best DPS, Tank, and Support Heroes

Update from October 5, 8:00 p.m.: On the evening of October 5th, there were further problems that were apparently related to the DDoS attacks. Sometimes players can’t even log into Battle.net anymore.

If you are lucky enough to start Overwatch, you will end up in the queue, but if you are unlucky, you will be greeted with the error message: “Login failed”:

However, there is currently no further information from Blizzard on the problem. It is known and the developers are working on a solution.

Original message from October 4th: Actually, Overwatch 2 was supposed to start at 9 p.m. sharp. The servers went live almost an hour beforehand. But you still can’t play.

If you want to log in at the moment, you will be greeted by a queue. According to the ad, this currently amounts to over 40,000 players who are in the queue in front of you and are waiting to be admitted, all on the PC alone.

According to our current information, the queue affects all platforms, but is shorter on some. Colleague Maik Schneider, for example, reports almost 10,000 players on the PlayStation, although Overwatch 2 fully supports crossplay.

How long do I have to wait? Unlike the insane queues in WotLK Classic, Overwatch doesn’t give you a message about how long the queues are. According to our observations, you should expect a waiting time of around 30 minutes.

The queue dwindles to around 30,000 after just a few minutes, but then it takes a while from there. We will contact you when we have specific information about the waiting times.

Connection to the game server lost – restart?

Players share their current cues on social media like reddit and twitter. Some are as low as 20,000, while others jump happily between 0, 300, 4,000 and more, making it difficult to estimate an exact wait time.

Following the enormous rush, many waiting players are expressing their frustration with memes:

Also, the error message “Lost/Failed to connect to game server” keeps popping up, which will throw you out of the queue. If this happens, you should wait a moment and hope for an automatic reconnect. If that doesn’t work, according to current information, only a restart will help. If that doesn’t help either, restarting the Battle.net client may help if you’re playing on PC.

According to official Blizzard support, the problem is known and actively being worked on (via Twitter). There is also a post in the official forum. This states, among other things:

  • Players who have combined their PC and console accounts may experience an “unexpected server error”.
  • some cosmetics might be missing
  • there may be disconnections
  • What is so special about Overwatch 2? If you haven’t followed the development of Overwatch 2, we summarize the most important key points here:

  • Overwatch 2 was originally intended to be a kind of successor to Overwatch.
  • The core of the game was a co-op mode in PvE with hero development and story focus.
  • At that time, however, there was great resentment because nobody wanted to pay for a “better update”.
  • Today, at least the PvP part is completely free and relies on a Battle Pass as a new progression system.
  • The biggest new features of Overwatch 2 are the revised graphics and the switch to 5 players per team instead of 6 as before.

The reduction of one tank leads to a better flow of the game and more action, a generally rounder feeling in the game, as MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus explains in more detail in his play report on Overwatch 2.

However, the new PvE mode is not playable at the moment and will be submitted later, probably for a fee. Meanwhile, Overwatch 1 is down and no longer available. The entire game has been transitioned to Overwatch 2, for which new heroes and updates will be forthcoming.
