” We will not tolerate any attempt by any foreign power to undermine the rule of law on which our democracy is based. »: the American Minister of Justice Merrick Garland is as solemn as he knows how to be, when he personally announces that 13 Chinese nationals are indicted in three different cases.
The first concerns what is called the operation ” fox hunting “. It consists for the Beijing authorities of forcibly repatriating Chinese living abroad, explaining that it is a question of fighting against corruption.
In the second case, four people of Chinese nationality are suspected of having tried to recruit university professors for their country’s intelligence.
Finally, two people are accused of having tried, including paying a bribe, to obtain information on the strategy of the Ministry of Justice in its proceedings against a Chinese telecom giant, probably Huawei. Bad luck, the bribe was paid to a double agent actually working for the FBI.
These decisions come as the tensions are high between China and the United Statesand a short time after the reappointment for a third term of Xi Jinping at the head of the Middle Kingdom. For the FBI director present at the announcement, ” if the Chinese government and the Chinese Communist Party continue to violate our laws, they will continue to fall on the FBI “.
