Mercedes EQE SUV and AMG EQE SUV it’s finally official – the company has completed both models today. There were surprises, there were firsts, but when it comes to design, everything turned out. Yet Mercedes put on a show, hired some dancers, seated some people on gravel seats, and even hired Henry the rabbit to prove how friendly and good the new cars are.

Starting at the lower level of the series, EQE SUV 350+, 350 4MATIC and 500 4MATIC available with hardware options. Surprise is the loss as we know it will only go on sale in China thanks to the official listing that was leaked on Friday. EQE SUV 300 version was. With the entry model that Mercedes will introduce at a later stage, it is possible to focus on more expensive versions for now.

The AMG EQE SUV will be available in two variants – 43 4MATIC and 53 4MATIC+ up to 687 HP. There are many mechanical differences between the AMG and non-AMG versions that can be blamed on a huge price difference. The AMG comes with an upgraded air suspension and added 48V anti-roll system familiar from petrol-powered models.

The braking system in the AMG EQE SUV comes with 6-piston calipers covering 415mm discs at the front, and 378mm discs and single-piston calipers on the rear brakes. Optional ceramic brakes let you raise the front discs up to 440mm in diameter and 40mm thick – that’s some serious stopping power. The electromechanical brake booster has been tuned by AMG engineers to give the typical response expected from the brand.

Let’s talk numbers – the AMG EQE 43 4MATIC SUV is powered by two electric motors with a total power of 350 kW or 476 HP and torque of 858 Nm. The battery pack is a 328V and 90.6 kWh power plant with a capacity of 170 kW DC charging and 22 kW AC charging. The recovery capacity of the system is 260 kW.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.3 seconds and the car will accelerate to an electronically limited top speed of 210 km/h. WLTP range is 431km with optional 22-inch wheels or 488km with regular wheels.

The AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV gets a significant power boost – 460 kW (626 HP) and 950 Nm of torque accelerate the vehicle from standstill to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. This is actually not quite true, Mercedes is playing some tricks with numbers here. These 3.5 seconds are only available with the optional DYNAMIC PLUS package, which increases power to 505 kW (687 hp) and torque to 1,000 Nm. Top speed is up to 240 km/h with this option – without this option the car peaks at 220 km/h.

The range of the more powerful version is 375 km with 22-inch wheels and 470 km with standard 21-inch parts.

The option lists for both models are unbearably long, but the entry model EQE SUV 350 is expected to start at around €75,000 when options start to pile up, but it’ll be easy to get close to €90,000. The company has yet to officially confirm the pricing, but a quick glance at the EQE prices confirms our suspicions. AMG versions will start at a minimum of €110,000 and a fully equipped AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV will cost close to €150,000.

From the outside, it’s really hard to tell the two models apart – sure, the AMG has wheels and black plastic parts, but you can’t tell the two apart. What is even more interesting is that from afar it is somewhat difficult to distinguish the EQE SUV from the EQS SUV. While anyone can tell the difference between the GLE and GLS, the EQ family members are much more similar. This is great for the smaller and cheaper EQE owner, but someone who drives an EQS SUV might not be as impressed.

In the coming weeks, Mercedes and AMG will reveal more details, hopefully pricing will be revealed along with it. YouTube already has videos with first look and in-depth reviews. Both the AMG and non-AMG models will be produced in the US at Mercedes’ factory in Alabama, and the US will be the first market to experience electric mid-size SUVs with a three-pointed star on the grille.
