The number of players on the Steam platform has continued to grow over the years. On October 10, 2022, Steam hit a new player count record. There were not even that many users at the start of the corona pandemic.
Steam, Vale’s game platform, was launched in 2003. Since then, Steam has continued to grow and users can now access numerous game titles from different developers and publishers via the website.
But not only the number of available games has grown over the years, but also the number of users on the platform. On October 23, 2022, Steam reached a new player count record.

How many players has Steam reached? The number of users of the gaming platform can be seen on the steamdb website:
There is a record for the value of the 24-hour peak. This currently shows the highest number of players ever who were logged into Steam at the same time. That was a total of 30,032,005 people, i.e. around 30 million people (via. steamdb.info, as of October 24, 2022).
Here you can see a graphic from steamdb.info with the new record number of players in the “all-time peak”:
The constant growth in the number of players logged in at the same time over the years can be clearly seen in another graph on steamdb.
Since the launch of the platform in 2003, the community has continued to grow and has gradually reached major milestones: In August 2015, Steam broke the 10 million mark, and in March 2020 the 20 million users. Now, in October 2022, the 30 million have been reached.
How high were the numbers in the corona pandemic? There was a huge peak in the week when the WHO classified Covid-19 as a pandemic on March 11, 2020. Here the number of around 20 million logged-in users jumped up to almost 24 million.
How many people actually gambled on it? Although the approximately 30 million users were logged into the platform, not all of them were actually in a game. Steamdb.info provides further information on this:
The in-game number is significantly lower than the number of logged-in players and was around 8.5 million users.
