The sci-fi surprise of the year isn’t getting a sequel on Netflix – but there is a plan B

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners seemed to come out of nowhere and take sci-fi hearts by storm. Set in the world of cyberpunk role-playing games, the anime series was one of Netflix’s biggest surprises of the year. Unfortunately, it is now clear that it there will be no 2nd season. No season 2 for Netflix hit Cyberpunk: Edgerunners – but there is good news

A representative of producer CD Projekt Red confirmed this to Famitsu, as reported by Video Games Chronicle:

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was always a closed thing. So we’re not working behind the scenes on a second season. […] Personally I would though happy to work with Japanese animation studios again. We got very good feedback.

Should Cyberpunk: Edgerunners eventually be continued, it would not be a second season, according to the CD Projekt Red employee. Rather, there must then be a completely new approach.

In this respect, the story of the Netflix hit will probably not be told. New adventures in the same world or other animes from CD Projekt Red are definitely possible. Perhaps in the near future such projects will again come out of nowhere and delight fans.
