Rishi Sunak is running to become the new British Prime Minister after Liz Truss. The former finance minister announced this on Twitter.
The choice of a new Tory leader is expected to be between him, Penny Mordaunt and Boris Johnson.
Should Sunak be elected, he will make history as the first prime minister from an ethnic minority. He is the son of Indian immigrants, raised in Southampton in the south of England and educated at the universities of Oxford and Stanford.
