The Greek-American soprano was surrounded by scandal and became at least as famous for her relationship with the shipowner Aristotle Onassis as for her voice.
Behind the film is the Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín, who also made a film about Princess Diana in “Spencer”. The script is written by Steven Knight, who created the Netflix series “Peaky Blinders”.
“I have long admired Pablo Larraín. To have the chance to tell Maria’s story together with him, and with a script by Steven Knight, is a dream,” says Angelina Jolie to The Guardian.
Maria Callas died in Paris in 1977, aged just 53.
