The patient sought care for persistent pain in the back and shoulders, which had occurred in connection with strenuous physical activity. The person was sent home with painkillers, but on a later return visit an EKG was taken which showed a heart attack. Follow-up checks then showed moderate heart failure, for which the patient received treatment.
A few months later, the patient died at home, and the autopsy showed an acute heart attack.
The region writes that “an earlier diagnosis and treatment could have reduced the risk of heart failure and further heart attacks”. At the return visit, too much time had passed since the first symptoms for the patient to be treated with clot-dissolving drugs.
