Studio behind Bayonetta defends itself against the allegations

New information came to light in the dispute over the new Bayonetta 3. Allegedly, former spokeswoman Hellena Taylor was offered $15,000. However, she asked for more, it is said.

This is the situation:

  • Hellena Taylor previously voiced the famous witch Bayonetta in the Platinum Games series of the same name.
  • When Bayonetta 3 was released, Taylor called for a boycott because she was allegedly only offered a fee of $4,000 for the entire game.
  • As a report from Bloomberg now explains, the pay was more than 3 times higher. Taylor is said to have been offered at least $15,000. More than she earned from the game so far.
  • Where does the information come from? Journalist and industry insider Jason Schreier has received information about the deal from alleged Platinum Games employees. The employees are said to have had insight into the negotiations.

According to these, Taylor was not offered $4,000, but between $3,000 and $4,000 for 5 recording sessions. Your fee would be between $15,000 and $20,000.

However, the employees want to remain anonymous because, according to their own statements, they are not authorized to speak about the deal.

Taylor is said to have demanded six-figure sums

According to the report, negotiations came to a standstill when Taylor demanded a six-figure sum including royalties as a fee. Bayonetta makers Platinum Games then approached new voice actress Jenifer Hale, who finally accepted.

Taylor spoke to the news portal VideoGameChronicle in private messages. It said claims she was offered more than $4,000 were “categorically false” and that the $15,000 offer was “a complete lie and an absolute joke.”

Taylor says she wants to “ditch the whole friggin’ franchise” and still stands by the fact that she was telling the truth in her videos.

Platinum Games Vice President Hideki Kamiya says he finds the untruth attitude “sad and deplorable” (via IGN). Bayonetta’s new spokeswoman, Jennifer Hale, is not directly commenting on the subject because of her non-disclosure agreement, but says her reputation speaks for itself. Hale is best known as the voice of Ashe in Overwatch, Tanya in Mortal Kombat, and The Red Judge in the new Metal: Hellsinger, among others.
