The French men’s basketball team qualified for the final of the European Nations Championship (Eurobasket) on September 16, 2022 in Berlin, dominating Poland 95-54 in the semi-finals. The Blues will challenge the Spaniards or the Germans on September 18, to try to win a second continental title after 2013.
This time, the Blues did not tremble. After having painfully beaten in extra time Turkey in the round of 16 (87-86) and Italy in the quarterfinals (93-85), the French team walked 95-54 against Poland in the semi-finals of this Eurobasket.
This September 16, 2022, in the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin, the French played, in particular the interior Guerschon Yabusele who scored 22 points. At the break, they were already leading by 16 points (34-18). Poland, which however took Slovenia out of superstar Luka Doncic in the previous round, did not make the weight as well offensively (32% shooting success, against 62% for France) as defensively (21 rebounds against 40 ).
A third medal in a row
As a result, the Tricolores will face Germany or Spain in the final of this 41st European Nations Championship for men, on September 18 in Berlin. The selection led by Vincent Collet thus erased a failed Eurobasket 2017 (12th place) and extended its sparkling series after the bronze medal at the 2019 World Cup and the silver medal at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.
The French will try in two days for the next one to be golden. They have been European champions only once: in 2013. They have also won silver twice (1949, 2011) and bronze six times (1937, 1951, 1953, 1959, 2005, 2015) in this competition .
